Tampa Bay is the largest open-water estuary in Florida. It is surrounded by the cities of Sarasota, Bradenton,
St Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach, and Tampa. Fresh water from four main rivers flows into the bay creating
a rich habitat for a variety of animals. There are over 200 species of fish found in or around the bay.
Amongst those are the popular game fish we love to pursue like redfish, tarpon, snook, sea trout, spanish
mackerel, cobia, mangrove snapper, and grouper to name a few.  Other marine critters like manatees,
dolphins, and sea turtles, as well as a wide variety of bird species such as pelicans, sandpipers, and roseate
spoonbills for viewing or photographing.

The Nature Coast is the area from St. Joseph Sound in Pasco county, up the gulf coast to
Ochlockonee Bay in Wakulla county.  Along this stretch of coastline, crystal clear spring fed rivers flow into
beautiful salt marshes dotted with mangroves.  The coast is also dotted with many wildlife refuges that hold
an abundance of fish and bird species.  The southern parts of this pristine unspoiled coast, including Tarpon
Springs, Chassahowitzka, and Homosassa, are only about a 40 minute drive from the bustling  city of Tampa.

This area is a wonderful place to escape the busy, urban areas and visit old Florida.  A shallow draft skiff is
needed to reach much of the area's best fishing. Poling for redfish, trout, and the occasional monster snook
is the way to go. Tarpon also Migrate through the waters along the Nature Coast during the spring and
summer months.
Tampa Bay  has become a fantastic
fishery  thanks  to extreme
conservation measures and fish
stocking programs.  There are great
opportunities to sight cast for redfish
and tarpon in clear water. Fly fishing
Tampa bay is a great way to
experience it. You can also pluck
away at the mangroves and small
creeks with a fly for snook, or work
the grass flats for trout and other
species with jigs.  The variety of fish
is unbelievable, and ways to catch
them are almost limitless. Tampa Bay
has a great fishery year round.
Tarpon are around March-August, the
the best time to sight cast to redfish,
is fall and winter.
